What is fiction?

Fiction is a term to describe something that is not true. Either it has not actually happened, or the description or order of events differs from that of real events. The term fiction is most often used to describe fictional books -- that is, writings that are not factual or accurate. While the plot of a fictional book and its characters may be realistic, the facts are not clear and the plot does not represent any real situation or occurrance.

Why is fiction so popular?

Books are usually clearly divided between two categories: fictional, or not "real"; and non-fictional, or "real" - factual, scientific, based on real happenings, etc. While both types of books offer many great materials for reading, many readers prefer fiction over non-fiction simply because it gives them the opportunity to escape reality. Fictional books often have exciting plots and twists that are simply not present in non-fictional books. What's more, with a fictional story, there is no limits but that of the author's imagination. Believe it or not, some of the most highly nominated and popular books and even movies in our society are fictional ones, rather than non-fictional ones.
